Summer updates
Last year, as many of you know, was a really, really tough year for us at Daily Bread. The aftermath of lockdown, the cost of living crisis and rising costs placed us in a very difficult financial situation.
The good news is: WE ARE STILL HERE! This is thanks to the overwhelming support we have received from our community of customers and suppliers who rallied to our side!
We had to do a lot of soul-searching, make many changes, and have reduced our staffing levels. But doing this has meant that we can remain an independent worker co-operative. This means that we can continue to give our staff an equal real living wage; we can pay our suppliers a fair price; we can choose our own sustainable and ethical methods of trading.
However, although things are much better, we are not 100% out of the woods yet. Our current position is stable, but that doesn’t mean we’re perfectly safe - and as the end of summer has always been a slow time for our shop, we’re concerned that this could lead us into further problems.
So we are putting out a new call: WE STILL NEED YOU!
We know the summer months are a busy and expensive time! However, if you could come by for a loaf of bread, an aromatherapy blend to repel bugs, or a cheeky cold drink and/or ice-cream, it would make a HUGE difference!
From this week, you can also get a home delivery from us if you live within a 10km radius of the shop! We are super excited about launching this. Details are available here.
